Theater Festival Schwindelfrei - The Art of The Body
The art of the body is up for theatrical debate in this year's Schwindelfrei. The results - all performances are havong their world premieres during the festival. The pieces were specially developed for Schwindelfrei and show completely different thematic and aesthetic approaches.
New to the festival this year is Jan Deck who acts as the festival dramaturg and curator. He was responsible for this year’s theme and together with Nicolette Kretz selected the participating productions from all applications.
The human body is much more than its visible surface. It is a place of social standards of beauty and health. Sexuality is a source of profit, it is a metaphor for national forms of organization. Ever since the sixties, the performing arts have discovered the body as a subject. From the body performance over the choral speaking, contemporary dance, the "physical theater" or hour-long "duration performances" they have turned into productions and display formats, which fold ones topic and work. The festival theme The Art of The Body is part of this tradition and shows that it has lost none of its relevance.
